Carrie Underwood posted an open letter to fans Tuesday, announcing a new single, "Cry Pretty," to be released Wednesday and offering a health update since being injured in a fall in November.
"My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90 percent there … And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well," Underwood wrote. "I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while."
She described her song "Cry Pretty," written with Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose, and Lori McKenna, as "emotional" and "real."
"The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can't hold them back," she wrote. "It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life."
She said she is coproducing her new album with writer/producer David Garcia, whom she called "an amazing teacher and partner."
Underwood's fall in November required surgery for a broken wrist and 40 stitches in her face, Billboard magazine noted, adding that despite warnings that she may look different as a result of her injuries, the singer hinted that things are going better than expected.
Fans can hear her new single live at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, when she makes her comeback performance.
Underwood referred to spending time with her son Isaiah and husband, Mike Fisher, who plays hockey for the Nashville Predators, as a "silver lining" to her injury and "forced relaxation."
She also thanked fans for their support of her latest song, "The Champion," which was released with Ludacris earlier this year and has become an anthem at sporting events, Time magazine noted.
