A cat accidentally mailed by her owner in England survived eight days in a box before popping out 260 miles away to shock the recipient and delight the press.

Julie Baggott said she packaged up an order of DVDs and mailed it from the coastal town of Falmouth to a customer in West Sussex, reported the Belfast Telegraph. She didn't realize her Siamese cat Cupcake had somehow slipped inside before she sealed the package.

While Cupcake was making her unexpected trip, a frantic Baggott was putting up search posters and scanning for the cat's embedded microchip, according to The Guardian.

"I feel terrible about what's happened, you know," Baggott said, noted The Guardian. "I mean, I put everything in the box and I sealed it straight away, so I don't know how she managed to get in there. It was a miracle she was alive, she's managed to survive that awful ordeal."

Cupcake jumped out of the box eight days later when opened by the customer, who contacted the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

"She was quite dehydrated and obviously really quite scared, quite nervous," said veterinarian Ben Colwell, who examined Cupcake at the Grove Lodge Veterinary Hospital in Worthing at the request of RSPCA, noted The Guardian.

"She's done really, really well, she's responded to fluids really well," Colwell added. "Luckily she was microchipped."

The Daily Mail said Baggott and Cupcake were reunited Saturday after the vet hospital contacted Baggott from information gathered from the microchip.

As Cupcake made her way back home, some on social media were scratching their heads.
