CBS executives have pulled the season finale episode of the sitcom "Mike & Molly" in the wake of the deadly tornado that ripped through Oklahoma Monday.

The episode, titled "Windy City," reportedly revolves around a fictional tornado, which forces Mike and Molly to confess important news to each other in what would have been the third season finale of the romantic comedy.

But the mile-wide tornado that devastated Oklahoma Monday, leveling an elementary school and killing dozens, caused CBC execs to preemptively axe the episode.

"Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight's season finale of 'Mike & Molly,' which has a related story line," CBS wrote in a statement. "A repeat broadcast of 'Mike & Molly' will run in the time period. The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date."

Most fans of the show were understanding of the decision to hold the episode.

"Makes a lot of sense and is a thoughtful thing to do in light of all the death and destruction happening today," wrote one person on LATimes.com.

But others didn't see what the big deal was.

"Oh just show the damn show for God's sake," another commenter posted. "It's not like Mike and Molly caused the OKC tornado."

Networks have been increasingly sensitive to national news when it comes to the correlation of real life to TV. In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting last year, SyFy yanked an episode of "Haven" and Fox delayed "Family Guy" and "American Dad" due to concerns over "sensitive content."

Last month, NBC held an episode of "Castle" in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. The network also pulled a violent episode of "Hannibal" around that time, which featured a storyline about children being brainwashed to kill other children.

"Mike and Molly" premiered in 2010 and stars Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy as two people who met and fell in love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.
