Chelsea Clinton defended Barron Trump in a Facebook post following cyberbullying of the 10-year-old, saying the new president’s son needs the chance to have a normal childhood.
As a former first kid, Clinton weighed in on the insensitive attacks Barron has already faced during his father’s first few days in office, posting, "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does — to be a kid."
Clinton was 12 when her father took office and has stayed in the spotlight during her mother’s tenure as senator, secretary of state, and presidential nominee. The media was not always kind to Clinton, mocking her appearance and making her the focus of a magazine article about her father’s sex scandal.
Clinton didn’t stop at defending Barron, however. She also took a shot at President Donald Trump in the same post, saying, “part of standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids.”
Clinton did not specify which policies she was referring to in the post.
George W. Bush’s daughters Barbara and Jenna recently wrote a letter to Sasha and Malia Obama about transitioning out of White House life as their father left office.
“Now you are about to join another rarified club, one of former First Children — a position you didn’t seek and one with no guidelines,” the letter said, CNN reported. “But you have so much to look forward to. You will be writing the story of your lives, beyond the shadow of your famous parents, yet you will always carry with you the experiences of the past eight years.”
