Cher has been many things during her illustrious career — singer, actor and more — but now she wants to be a postal worker! The superstar tried to volunteer at the U.S. Postal Service but was turned down.
The USPS is facing delays and financial crises, and the singer is concerned that this may cause the elderly to not receive their medication on time. Taking to social media, Cher aired her concerns and asked for advice on how she could go about offering her services to the Postal Service.
"NO,IM NO KIDDING...COULD I VOLUNTEER AT MY POST OFFICE," the 74-year-old asked in a post to Twitter.
After not receiving any concrete information from her fans, Cher posted a follow-up tweet once again asking for advice on how to volunteer at the USPS.
She then wrote of her unsuccessful endeavor.
"They were polite. I said'Hi This Is Cher,& I Would like to know If you ever take Volunteers!? Lady Said She Didn't Know & Gave Me # Of Supervisor.I Called & Said Hi This is Cher Do U Accept volunteers.'NO,Need Fingerprints & Background Check," she tweeted.
Too bad. Imagine walking into your local post office and having Cher wait on you.
After being rejected, she then followed up with a scathing post aimed at President Donald Trump, who has been accused of attempting to cripple the USPS and limit mail-in voting.
"SAID trump’ll STRANGLE OUR DEMOCRACY IF HE THINKS IT’LL GETS HIM A 2ND TERM," Cher wrote. "LOOK AT 100s OF MAIL BOXES RIPPED OUT OF THE CONCRETE,& THROWN INTO DUMPS.SORTING MACHINES TORN APART.ONLY WALL MART EMPLOYS MORE PPL.MANY VETS WORK THERE.MANY OLDER PPL WILL DIE WITHOUT MEDS FROM PO."
Her tweetstorm comes days after former President Barack Obama accused Trump of trying to "actively kneecap the Postal Service" to affect mail-in voting in the November election.
Last week, Trump blamed the stalemate over the coronavirus stimulus bill on Democrats, who are pushing for additional funds for the Postal Service.
"They want $25 billion for the post office," he said. "Now, they need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. Now, in the meantime, they aren't getting there."
But Obama pushed back, saying: "What we've never seen before is a president say, 'I'm going to try to actively kneecap the Postal Service to encourage voting, and I will be explicit about the reason I'm doing it.' That's sort of unheard of, right? And we also have not had an election in the midst of a pandemic that is still deadly and killing a lot of people."
