The Chevy Bolt was named the 2017 Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Bolt won the North American Car of the Year title over the Genesis G90 and the Volvo S90, USA Today reported. Several dozen auto journalists who regularly test-drive vehicles voted on the award that was announced at the event, which is still often referred to as the Detroit Auto Show.

The Bolt, the first American-made mass-market, fully-electric car, has 238-mile range per charge, USA Today noted. The Bolt, which does not have a gas engine, is about half the price of luxury Tesla Model S or X, according to the newspaper.

"The market is taking notice of this car, the first to offer a no-excuses reason to drive an electric vehicle," Mark Reuss, General Motors' global product development director, said, according to NBC News.

The Chrysler Pacifica was named the Utility Vehicle of the Year in the first time the category was separated from the Truck of the Year running, CNN Money reported. The Honda Ridgeline won Truck of the Year honors over the Ford F-Series Super Duty and the Nissan Titan.

"Despite so many alternatives that have come to market over the past 20 years, there is no better alternative for a family than the minivan," Fiat Chrysler vice president Tim Kuniskis said of the Pacifica, according to NBC News.

In November, the Bolt was also named Motor Trend's Car of the Year.

"Two numbers — 238 and 29,995 — are why," wrote Angus MacKenzie, of Motor Trend. "The first is the number of miles the (Environmental Protection Agency) has certified the Bolt EV will travel on a full charge.

"The second is the price, in dollars, of the Bolt EV, after allowing for a $7,500 federal tax rebate. By offering that range at that price, the Bolt EV has made just about every other electric vehicle on sale obsolete," Motor Trend continued.
