Chobani may have pulled some of its Greek yogurt products from store shelves — citing reports of funny tasting yogurt — but the company insists the move does not constitute a recall.
The all-natural business launched an investigation last week after some customers complained about "unnervingly fizzy" yogurt cups, while others reported that theirs tasted "really old." One even said the strawberry flavor tasted like "wine."

"The first sign of a problem was the Key Lime Crumble Flip that left a sharp aftertaste. My wife threw it away and moved on. I assumed it was a bad cup or maybe just a naturally occurring oddity,"
one Chobani customer wrote in to Consumerist.com. "The next few cups were fine and life goes on. Then tonight I grabbed an Apple Cinnamon for a snack and had a few bites. My wife tried it and noticed that funny taste again after mixing the cup some more. Then I tasted (what is still lingering in my mouth as I type this) the sharp, almost tingling aftertaste."
Chobani posted an update on its website last week assuring customers that it would look into the issue.
"Here at Chobani,
nothing is more important to us than the quality of our products and the safety and satisfaction of our customers. Recently, we heard quality concerns surrounding certain cups, which were experiencing swelling or bloating," a statement read.
Apparently, the Chobani products in questions contained a type of mold commonly found in dairy. The company claimed that less than 5 percent of its production was affected, and traced most of the afflicted yogurt cups to Chobani's Idaho facility.
"We've been diligently working with our retail partners and have voluntarily and proactively removed and replaced the majority of potentially affected cups with the code 16-012, expiration dates 9/11/2013 through 10/7/2013 to ensure our fans are met with only the best experience when enjoying our products," Chobani said.
The voluntary product withdrawal was not a full-blown recall, food experts said, because it did not constitute a food safety issue.
