Chocolate Toothpaste Launched by Crest, Along With Vanilla Mint

By    |   Tuesday, 28 January 2014 08:55 AM EST

Though chocolate toothpaste might seem counterintuitive, Crest has included the flavor in its new product line along with lime spearmint and vanilla mint.

The toothpaste company recently unveiled the new line for customers who want to spice up their brushing routine.

"Got an adventurous spirit or a sweet tooth? Well, then this is the toothpaste for you," Crest said in a press release announcing the new line. "Now consumers can explore outside their boundaries, arouse their senses and energize their brushing routine like never before."

The chocolate toothpaste "opens with a rich, creamy cocoa flavor that provides an indulgent and decadent experience," Crest said of its mint chocolate variation.

But how can chocolate toothpaste possibly be good for teeth? Because it's simply flavored with chocolate and doesn’t actually contain any of the tooth-decaying component of real cocoa, John Scarchilli, head of Scientific Communications for Crest's parent company Proctor & Gamble, told ABC News.

Twitter users were divided on Crest's new chocolate toothpaste with some cheering the new flavor and others viewing it as a signal of the downfall of American society.
