Chris Christie's sports talk turned to trash talk when the lameduck New Jersey governor took on an angry caller on the air and finished him off by saying he was a "bum."
Christie was filling in for WFAN's sports talk radio host Mike Francesca on Monday afternoon, reported CNN.
The radio appearance came after Christie's "beach blunder" in which he and his family along with aides were spotted sunning themselves on a state-owned beach after it was closed to the public during a government budget crisis.
Christie was unapologetic and some say his recent outspokeness is forged to gin up attention for a post-governorship foray into the media.
The public was invited to call in to chat with the governor and several listeners used it as an opportunity to call out Christie.
One caller, "Mike from Montclair," jumped at the opportunity to air his opinions on the radio show.
"Governor, the next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fat ass in a car and go to one that is open to all your constituents, not just you and yours," he said.
"I love getting calls from communists in Montclair," retorted Christie.
"Mike" responded by calling the governor a bully, to which Christie responded:
"Mike you are swearing on the air, you are a bum."
The on-air exchange came the same day results of the latest Monmouth University Poll showed Christie's job rating at an all-time low.
According to the poll, only 15% of NJ adults approved of the job Christie was doing as governor. a whopping 80% expressed their disapproval.
"Only 30% of Christie's fellow Republicans give positive marks to his job performance, joining just 15% of independents and only 7% of Democrats who feel the same," said Monmouth University.
"Both the state legislature - 23% approve and 61% disapprove - and Pres. Donald Trump - 35% approve and 58% disapprove - garner better ratings than Christie."
