Chris Christie, New Jersey governor and presidential hopeful, was asked to leave a quiet train car during his commute Sunday morning after talking loudly on his cell phone. He later apologized.
Witnesses say they heard a familiar voice on the phone saying, "this is frickin’ ridiculous" and "seriously!? seriously!?" when an Amtrak employee approached the governor, and informed him that he was, in fact, in the quiet car.
As Gawker reported, one passenger snapped a picture of Christie as he put down the cell phone, picked up his pink McDonald's smoothie, and moved to a different car.
After being asked about the incident, Christie's spokeswoman explained that it was mix up on the staff's part.
"On a very full train this morning, the Governor accidentally took a seat in Amtrak's notorious quiet car," Samantha Smith, the governor's spokeswoman,
told The Huffington Post. "After breaking the cardinal rule of the quiet car, the Governor promptly left once he realized the serious nature of his mistake and enjoyed the rest of his time on the train from the cafe car. Sincere apologies to all the patrons of the quiet car that were offended."
As Politico reported, Christie was returning to his home state from an appearance on CBS’s "Face the Nation," where he spoke about the Black Lives Matter movement, condemning some of their members for chanting death threats against police during their rallies.
One reported witness, Katie Klabusich, spoke out on Twitter, explaining that the governor was very gracious about moving train cars. She noted that the incident wasn't really a big deal, as Gawker had insinuated in its initial report.
