Chris Pratt is among several Hollywood stars under attack for attending churches holding traditional Christian views of sexuality that some say do not support LGBTQ beliefs, Christian Headlines reports. Other stars criticized for their choice of churches include Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Selena Gomez.

The controversy emerged after Pratt's recent guest appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" during which the topic arose surrounding Pratt's choice to do a biblically inspired fast. LGBTQ activist Ellen Page responded to the clip with a tweet criticizing the church in Los Angeles of which Pratt is a member for failing to address its stance on LGBTQ beliefs.

“Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?” she tweeted.

Shortly after, the The Washington Post shed light on the topic with a column by Drew Goins that slammed Pratt along with other Hollywood stars including Bieber, Jenner and Selena Gomez for attending Hillsong Church — an Australian megachurch that has branches based in the U.S. attended by notable celebrities.

"Celebrity megachurches have every incentive to obscure where they stand on LGBTQ people. One of the contemporary entertainment industry’s strongest claims to social relevance is stars’ participation in the fight for LGBT equality," Goins wrote. "So most of these celebrity megachurches — which skew evangelical (and thus conservative) — figure the solution is just to keep their theological teachings about sexuality quiet."

Adding weight to the topic, CNN published a column by Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons, who urged celebrities such as Pratt to publicly take a stance on the issue.

"They are baptizing a new generation into a stream of destructive theology through emotionally manipulative music. For LGBTQ Christians, this kind of 'welcome' is especially painful," Graves-Fitzsimmons wrote. "Pratt should first clarify what his church's views are on LGBTQ rights."

Pratt addressed the issue on social media, stating that "nothing could be further from the truth" and that the church he attends "opens their doors to absolutely everyone," Christian Headlines reported.

Hillsong Church responded with a statement insisting it did not preach against anyone or any group.

"We are an inclusive Christian church that loves, values and welcomes all people, regardless of their background, ethnicity, beliefs, values, or personal identity," the statement said.
