Disney’s live-action “Cinderella,” starring Lily James of “Downton Abbey,” is set for release in March, and the official trailer is sparking additional interest in the film.
The movie also features Cate Blanchett as the stepmother, Holliday Grainger as Anastasia, Sophie McShera as Drisella, Richard Madden as the prince, and Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother.
"It's a very unusual project because anybody sitting down almost certainly knows the story,”
live-action "Cinderella" director Sir Kenneth Branagh told E! News. “They've had it read to them or they've seen the film. I think we get to refresh, reactive and recreate Cinderella from the inside out. The honoring of the original comes in, I think, as sort of a lightness of touch and a sort of lavishness."
The film will downplay the prince’s role, Branagh told E! News.
“It's much more about who she is, what she feels about herself, and taking that kind of sort of spiritual cue to make it refreshing in a contemporary way," he said.
Some of the animal characters from the original animated movie, including Gus-Gus, will have a place in the film.
Twitter users shared mixed reactions to the trailer.
