Clear sky turbulence injured 27 people on a Russian Aeroflot flight that was headed to Thailand on Monday.

Airline personnel weren't able to warn the passengers about the turbulence because it occurred in clear skies, Reuters reported.

One of the passengers, Rostik Rusev, said the turbulence was so bad that passengers were thrown from their seats.

"It lasted for about ten seconds, the plane was being thrown everywhere," he told CNN. "There was blood on the ceiling, people with broken noses, babies who were hurt, it was horrible. It came out of nowhere it was like driving a car and a tire suddenly bursts."

"The aircraft personnel couldn't have been more professional and courageous," Rusev added. "They were heroes in everything they were doing."

The turbulence happened about 40 minutes before the plane was scheduled to land in Bangkok, Reuters reported.

Of the 27 injured passengers, 24 of them were said to be Russian nationals. At least 15 of the those injured had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Three of the Russians had to undergo surgery.

The Russian embassy said the injuries were also due in part to some passengers not wearing seat belts.

"All the injured were sent to a local hospital with injuries of a different kind of severity, mainly fractures and bruises," the Russian embassy told Reuters. "The reasons behind the injuries were that some of the passengers had not had their seat belts fastened."
