Co-workers surprised hardworking teen Noah Robinson with a car for his birthday so he wouldn’t have to ride his bike six and a half miles to his job, which did for six months come rain or shine.
According to CBS News, the 19-year-old had been living on his own after leaving an unstable home environment and, determined to make something of his life, he managed to get a job at Glastender Inc., a Michigan based family business that manufactured bar and restaurant equipment.
With his birthday around the corner, Robinson’s boss and co-workers decided to pool their money together to buy him a car. The shiny, red vehicle was wrapped up in a ribbon and given to the shocked teen on his birthday last week.
“I was out of words, I was crying,” Robinson told WNEM. “It makes me feel like blessed, like I got good people around me.”
The project was a combined effort that was spearheaded by Dan McGrandy, an engineering tech at Glastender in Saginaw.
He explained that they managed to raise a large portion of the funds for the car within a matter of weeks.
“It was nice to be able to do it because I think he now sees that he is a part of our family and he knows we’re going to be there for him,” he told WNEM.
The owner of the company also had a part to play in the whole thing, taking Robinson to his driving test last week and forking out for insurance on the car.
The teen said per ABC News that the owner “took me out to do some road practice first, and then he took me out to do my driver's test.”
Robinson added that the kind act showed him what it felt like to have a family.
"I've been driving it for the whole weekend and even though, every time I get ready to step foot in the car, I'm like, 'I can't believe this is happening'," he said, per ABC News.
