Coca-Cola Milk FairLife to Have More Protein, Less Sugar, Higher Price

By    |   Wednesday, 26 November 2014 02:21 PM EST

Coca-Cola is launching a new brand of milk called Fairlife that the company says is “premiumized” to include 50 percent more protein, 30 percent less sugar, no lactose, and a price tag twice as high as regular milk.

“We’re going to be investing in the milk business for a while to build the brand, so it won’t rain money in the early couple of years. But like Simply [Coke’s premium fruit juice line], when you do it well, it rains money later,” said Sandy Douglas, Coke’s global chief customer officer, while announcing the product at a conference.

The new product, which has been nicknamed “Milka-Cola” on Twitter, is being produced through a partnership involving 92 family-owned farms, USA Today reported.

The drink launched in Minnesota in February with an ad campaign depicting women wearing clothes that appear to be made of milk.

The ad campaign drew criticism on Twitter.

Twitter users had mixed reactions to the concept.
