Conan O'Brien nearly lost his family home in Rhode Island, but saved it on Friday by paying the $8,000 in back taxes he owed.
The Westerly Sun newspaper reported that the TV talk show host's property on Avondale Road, "valued at $722,900," was removed from the county auction slated for Tuesday.
O'Brien's publicist, Drew Shane, told reporters that his client was unaware that he owed money on the property. "Due to a clerical error as a result of my accounting firm in Los Angeles moving offices, we have never received any notice about this tax bill," he stated in an email.

O'Brien also
explained the situation to Us Weekly magazine on Monday.
"As soon as I was made aware that the tax bill on my parents' house was being mailed to the wrong address, I paid the bill immediately," he said. "The problem has been corrected. I am grateful to the reporter at the Westerly Sun who spotted this error and notified me."
The house is listed in O'Brien's parents' names, Thomas and Ruth O'Brien, and sits near the Westerly Shore in Rhode Island.
The 51-year-old writer and comedian, famous for his red pompadour, grew up in nearby Massachusetts and graduated from Harvard.
