UFC fighter Conor McGregor could make an appearance on “Game of Thrones,” which would combine perhaps one of the most interesting sports celebrities in the world with one of the most popular shows on television today.
McGregor could be making an appearance on one of the final seasons of the HBO drama series, after HBO reached out to the Dublin athlete, Yard Barker noted.
“It’s been agreed that McGregor will appear in one of the remaining two seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’,” a source told Belfast-based outlet the Sunday Life, according to Bleacher Report and other outlets.
“He was headhunted as it were by HBO, as one of the ‘Game of Thrones’ directors is a huge UFC fan. They believed that he would be a perfect fit for the show,” Belfast Live noted.
The collaboration makes sense because the show contains some violent content and does its filming in Ireland. McGregor, as a star in UFC, is familiar with a controlled form of violence in an Octagon, and he’s also an Irishman, The Washington Post noted.
It’s not yet clear what role McGregor will play if he appears on the show.
“Game of Thrones” has run for six seasons, and season seven is expected to air by the summer of 2017, Bleacher Report noted.
The 28-year-old fighter has been filmed sparring with Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, who plays “The Mountain” in the HBO series.
