Hundreds and thousands of people have been infected with the coronavirus, including prominent public figures. Among them are celebrities, athletes and socialites who have all taken ill.
Here is a look at eight famous people who have the coronavirus, as listed in a report by People on Friday.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
The celebrity couple caused a stir after revealing that they had both tested positive for the coronavirus.
Hanks announced the news on Wednesday on social media, explaining that he and his wife Wilson both started experiencing "body aches," "chills" and "slight fevers." They decided to have it checked out and were found positive for the virus.
"Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?," Hanks said, promising to keep fans "posted and updated."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday. Government officials said that Sophie would "remain in isolation," according to a statement obtained by People. The prime minister is "in good health with no symptoms" but would be in "isolation for a planned period of 14 days."
Janet Broderick (Matthew Broderick’s sister)
Janet began showing symptoms after attending the Consortium of Endowed Episcopal Parishes conference, where another attendee was diagnosed with the coronavirus. Doctors initially treated her for "a viral syndrome" but she was later admitted into ICU for the virus.
Juventus Football Club revealed on Thursday that its player Daniele Rugani had tested positive for the coronavirus, although he was not showing any symptoms.
"Juventus Football Club is currently activating all isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him," the Italian football club said, per People.
The NBA suspended its season "until further notice" after Utah Jazz star Gobert tested positive on Wednesday for the coronavirus.
Two days prior, Gobert caused panic after intentionally touching several reporter's microphones during a press conference. In a video that has surfaced on social media, Gobert is seen getting up from his seat and dramatically rubbing his hand across the microphones attached to the podium before exiting the room. Gobert recently apologized.
All Utah Jazz players have undergone testing and another star player later identified as Mitchell was found to be carrying the coronavirus. The NBA star confirmed the news on Thursday in an Instagram post.
"I am going to keep following the advice of our medical staff and hope that we can all come together and be there for each other and our neighbors who need our help," he wrote.
The socialite and her sister were tested positive for the coronavirus after attending fashion shows in Milan and Paris, during which they "felt totally fine." On March 2, Nguyen developed a cough and the following day doctors confirmed the diagnosis. Her sister was also infected.
Event organizers from the Gucci fall 2020 fashion show issued a statement obtained by People saying, "Despite 21 days having passed since our show, once we were informed of Mrs. Nguyen’s coronavirus confirmation, we informed all guests that were seated alongside Mrs. Nguyen at the show. They have expressed their thanks and advised they are doing well."
