Garth Brooks won Entertainer of the Year at the 2016 Country Music Awards on Wednesday night in Nashville, but had to share the spotlight with a surprise guest, pop-R&B queen Beyonce.
Taylor Swift presented the award to Brooks who beat out Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban and last year’s winner, Luke Bryan.
“We are so damn lucky to be part of this thing called country music,” said Brooks at the 50th annual awards show, per U.S. News and World Report.
The night became even more electric when the Beyonce took the stage accompanied by the Dixie Chicks to perform her country-blues song "Daddy's Lesson" from her newest album “Lemonade,” said Reuters.
“Everybody get on your feet. Put your hands together,” Beyonce told the crowd.
That brought the star-studded audience to its feet two hours into the three-hour show, and social media erupted.
Other big stars attending this year’s awards included Matthew McConaughey, Peyton Manning, Jennifer Garner, Olivia Newton-John, Nicole Kidman, Lily Tomlin, Sharon Stone and the Final Five Olympic gymnasts: Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian, U.S. News noted.
