'CSI' Star and Original Cast Member Paul Guilfoyle to Exit Show

By    |   Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:12 PM EDT

"CSI" star Paul Guilfoyle, an original cast member who has played Captain Jim Brass on all 14 seasons of the drama, will reportedly leave the show at the end of this season.

Guilfoyle and George Eads are the only two cast members who have been with the show from the start as regulars. Guilfoyle's final appearance will come in the Season 14 finale, which airs May 7, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The decision to end Brass' storyline came from the producers.

"Paul made Capt. Brass a standout character," CSI executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Don McGill said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "He is not just an original cast member, he is an original. In a show about forensics, fans always looked forward to the handcuffs coming out, and Capt. Brass putting his spin on the crime of the week, just as Paul Guilfoyle put his indelible stamp on the character and the show. He will be missed."

Guilfoyle and Eads have each appeared in 312 episodes. Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders) and Robert David Hall (Al Robbins) have also been with the series since its inception but weren't "regulars" until the third season.

"CSI" has endured many cast changes in its 14 seasons. William Petersen, Gary Dourdan, Marg Helgenberger, and Lawrence Fishburne have all helped solve crimes in Las Vegas. Ted Danson and Elisabeth Shue have headlined the cast since Season 12.

The venerable forensics show has already spawned two since-canceled series in "CSI: NY" and "CSI: Miami," and a third is set to debut in the spring starring Patricia Arquette.

Other CBS shows have lost major cast members recently, including Josh Charles from "The Good Wife" who made his shocking exit this week, Cote de Pablo from "NCIS," and Taraji P. Henson from "Person of Interest."
