Cure Auto Insurance was blasted for its Super Bowl ad that trivializes sexual harassment in the workplace. In the ad, which aired right before halftime on Sunday night, a male and female employee are holding a dialogue being supervised by a woman sitting behind a desk.
"Ms. Davis, Tommy just brought me into his office and whipped out his opinion," the female employee says.
"Tommy," the supervisor says.
"I didn’t just whip it out. She was into it. Plus, I have a pretty big opinion," Tommy explains.
"Oh please, it’s not that big," the female employee responds.
"She only gave me a second," Tommy says defensively.
"Tommy, not everyone in this office wants your opinion," the supervisor replies.
"Okay, well, how about you last week at happy hour when you begged me for my opinion?" Tommy asks.
"I had a pitcher of margaritas. I would’ve taken Doug’s opinion," the supervisor replies.
At the end of the ad, a narrated voiceover concludes: "We can’t protect your opinion — but we can protect your car."
Social media users were enraged.
"So that Cure auto insurance commercial just making a whole casual joke about workplace harassment is pretty awful," one Twitter user wrote, while others called the ad "offensive."
Another Twitter user slammed Cure Auto Insurance for making a mockery of sexual harassment.
"Mocking sexual harassment in the work place is not a good look. Just my opinion...not impressed Cure Auto Insurance," she wrote in a tweet.
"Wow. Okay. Cure Auto Insurance with the fail ad of the decade. What is happening????" an outraged viewer added.
As of Tuesday, Cure Auto Insurance had not addressed the backlash.
