Special curved coins to honor the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame will go on sale later this month, the U.S. Mint said Thursday.
The U.S. Mint hopes the $5, $1, and half-dollar coins will be a home run among collectors and baseball fans, as the design depicts a ball and a mitt. The curved coins, produced at the San Francisco Mint, are plated with gold, silver, and alloy.

Up to 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollar pieces will be produced. Online sales begin March 27,
the U.S. Mint announced.
The winning design was submitted by Cassie McFarland of San Luis Obispo, Calif., as part of a 2013 design competition. A baseball glove with the words "liberty" and "in God we trust 2014" across the palm adorns the "heads" side.
A baseball is depicted on the tails side, with the words "United States of America" and the coin's denomination inscribed on it.
These are the first curved coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint, according to the agency. They were created to help fund the independent, not-for-profit educational institution that runs the museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. Prices will include surcharges of $35 for each gold coin, $10 for a silver coin, and $5 for each half-dollar coin.
