"Daddy Dave" Comstock, star of Discovery Channel's "Street Outlaws," was hospitalized after a terrifying crash at the Amarillo Dragway in the Texas Panhandle on Saturday.
Fox News reported that Comstock's car had slammed into a wall at the race track. Furthermore,
TMZ reported that the vehicle barrel-rolled before coming to a stop. An ambulance transported Comstock to a local hospital where he was initially listed in stable condition.
Comstock was having problems with short-term memory after the crash, but was released from the hospital early Monday and will recover in Oklahoma.
ABC News wrote that Steve Lamberson, race operations manager at Amarillo Dragway, witnessed the accident — when Comstock's vehicle, named "Goliath," lost control.
"It just overpowered the racetrack," Lamberson said. "It was basically halfway down the racetrack where it made impact with the guardrail."
Comstock's wife Cassi thanked fans for their support
on Facebook this past Sunday.
"My main concern is Dave right now and being there for him," she wrote. "His short term memory is getting better, although he doesn't remember anything of what happened. He is beat up pretty bad and has a lot of pain in his shoulder, but he is currently resting.
"He will have another CT scan before they will release him, but his concussion symptoms have to improve first. We have the best friends and family ever and we are grateful for all of you," she concluded.
Street Outlaws, which just finished its fourth season on the Discovery Channel, is a reality show about the world of competitive street racing in Oklahoma City.
Comstock is one of several stars on the reality series and one of the show's top racers.
"Daddy Dave is the reigning 'King of the Streets' and smoked everyone in his 1996 GMC Sonoma S10 pickup,"
noted his "Street Outlaws" show biography.
"It's jammed packed with high performance race parts, totaling over $150,000. Construction mogul Jackie Knox funds Dave's racing and will spare no expense to keep him on the top of the list. With 20-plus years in the racing game and an endless budget, Daddy Dave plans to stay No. 1 for a long time."
