Danny Boyle reportedly wanted to kill James Bond off in the franchise's latest installment, a revelation that is in stark contrast to rumors that emerged last year as to why the filmmaker decided to leave the film, Fox News reported.

News that Boyle would no longer direct the upcoming film, currently known as Bond 25, sparked widespread speculation about what led to his departure. An official statement on Twitter last year noted that the English filmmaker opted out "due to creative differences."

Subsequent reports suggested Boyle had left the 25th installment because Daniel Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli wanted to kill Bond off in the film — a plot twist that he thought was "ridiculous," The Sun claimed last year.

But new information indicates it wasn’t Craig who wanted to kill his character, it was Boyle, and that left Craig and others both shaken and stirred.

"Boyle thought that killing 007 would be a brilliant way to pave the way for introducing a new Bond," an unnamed source in Los Angeles told Britain's Daily Star. According to the report, Broccoli and Daniel dismissed the idea. Boyle allegedly walked away as a result.

The news has not yet been confirmed or dismissed by any official representatives of the franchise, leaving the topic up for speculation.

Meanwhile, further Bond discussions have turned to what the film's name could be. Initial rumors suggested "Shatterhand" as the working title. However, Broccoli dismissed this in an autograph on a logo designed by a 007 fan, in which she pointed out that "Shatterhand" was "not" the film's official title, according to SkyNews.
