Actor Danny Trejo is giving back this holiday season. The "Machete" star and his restaurant, Trejo's Tacos, have teamed up with The Everest Foundation to help feed over 800 frontline workers and their families in East Los Angeles, KNBC reported on Saturday. Dr. Michael Everest of The Everest Foundation said he hoped the initiative could spread some joy among the community.
"During this difficult time, we want to give thanks to the East L.A. Community, especially our front-line workers that surround that facility, by spreading some joy this holiday season," he said. "We are grateful to be working with Trejo's Tacos to, once again, give back to such an important community."
In an Instagram post, Trejo's Tacos said the campaign was mutually beneficial.
"This year has been very difficult for many of us, including most of our friends in the hospitality industry," the post read. "These donations not only provided for the most vulnerable but helped keep our doors open. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our community. Thank you from the bottom of our heart."
Trejo has become an unsung hero in recent times. In 2019 the star helped rescue a baby that was trapped in an overturned car in Los Angeles. In video aired by KABC-TV, Trejo climbs into the wrecked vehicle to save the baby. He struggles to unbuckle the safety belt, but with the help of a bystander, he was able to eventually pull the child to safety.
Trejo later told the outlet that he strongly believed in paying it forward.
"Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else," he said. "Everything."
