Even Darth Vader can't resist a selfie. The Dark Lord's self-portrait was posted on Instagram, which helped "Star Wars" kick off off its account as "Star Wars: Episode VII" production looms.
The account had more than 98,000 followers Tuesday.
Wired magazine said that the @starwars account snapped up 30,000 of those followers in the first four hours it went live.

"Another day at the office. #StarWars #DarthVader #selfies #gpom," stated a message that came along with the Luke Skywalker's father's photo.
"Following the selfie, the Star Wars account posted and image that appears to be from a lightsaber battle between Luke Skywalker and Vader in 'Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back' with the hashtags #BehindTheScenes #Latergram #Vadergram," wrote Wired.com's Angela Watercutter. "Let’s hope the Disney marketing folks keep this up – because if there's one thing mobile photo-sharing needs, it’s some Jabba-grams."
Vanity Fair's Katey Rich said she hopes the "Star Wars" Instagram account is meant to draw interest and satisfy fans' interest in the iconic series reboot, something Star War followers have been concerned about with J.J. Abrams taking the production lead.
"With zero confirmed plot information, casting, or even a title for the next 'Star Wars' film, and the famously secretive Abrams still keeping the lid on his mystery box," Rich said, "we'll probably see selfies of every possible 'Star Wars' character between now and 'Episode VII's December 18 release. Get excited for Vines featuring Count Dooku, kids! Or, alternately, hope that Abrams learns from eating crow about the 'Star Trek Into Darkness' secrecy and opts to share a little bit more this time."
The movie is currently in preproduction and Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan reportedly are still hammering out a revised script.
Filming is scheduled to begin this upcoming spring. There's been no word on who will play the new leads and villains, although
StarWars.com has confirmed that R2-D2 will be in the film.
