Former "Married with Children" star David Faustino said Tuesday that he is working on a spinoff of the hit Fox comedy and has buy-ins from his former costars for the pilot episode.
"The whole cast, including Christina, is down to do little bits in it," Faustino
told E! News. "The idea would be a pilot for a spinoff. That's all I can say right now. It involves me and few other people."
The original series, which ran from 1987 to 1997, was one of the first hits for the then new Fox Television Network and starred Faustino, Christina Applegate, Ed O'Neill, and Katey Sagal as the dysfunctional Bundy family,
according to the New York Daily News.
Faustino told E! News at the premiere of Applegate's new movie "Vacation" that the series is being looked at very seriously.
"Sony has it. They're excited about it," he said. "They're working out some legal issues that we hope they work out."
Applegate, whose movie and television career includes roles in "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and "Samantha Who?" confirmed that she would be available for an appearance in the show.
"All of us have said we would all be there for [Faustino]," Applegate, who played Kelly Bundy, told E! News. "Kelly Bundy probably has like 10 kids. I'm sure of it."
Since leaving "Married with Children," O'Neill has since 2009 costarred in the ABC award-winning comedy series "Modern Family" as Jay Pritchett. Sagal starred in the television series "Sons of Anarchy" from 2008 to 2014, and also appeared in the movie "Pitch Perfect 2" this year.
The Museum of Broadcast Communication stated that "Married with Children" made an impact by setting itself apart from the typical sitcom style of the time.
"Set in Chicago, their new show was a parody of American television's tendency to create comedies dealing with relentlessly perfect family," wrote the museum. "Their program was immediately termed 'anti-family.'"
"At the time of [Married with Children's] appearance, the top-rated television series was 'The Cosby Show.' … In MWC, [creators Michael] Moye and [Ron] Leavitt not only lampoon Cosby, they parody its creator, Marcy Carsey," noted the museum.
