A 22-year-old American was killed in Greece after attempting to take what became a deadly selfie with a waitress.
Bakari Henderson, 22, died outside a bar in Laganas early on Friday, after sustaining serious head injuries in a brawl involving 10 people, the New York Daily News reported.
According to reports, the fight broke out after Henderson attempted to take a selfie with one of the bar’s waitresses, angering a bouncer at the venue.
A group of people, including staff from the bar, allegedly surrounded and beat Henderson, who succumbed to fatal head injuries after the group left him lying unconscious in the street.
Eight people have since been arrested and could face charges of voluntary manslaughter, CBS News reported.
Henderson had recently graduated from the University of Arizona and was visiting Greece in preparation for launching a clothing line.
Since news of his death emerged, friends and members of the public have banded together to express their condolences and show support to Henderson’s family.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money to bring back Henderson’s body and cover funeral expenses.
Created by Justin Romero, the page reads: "This is the celebration of life for Bakari Henderson. The love for this young man overflows and this loss is unbearable for so many of us. If you knew Bakari, you knew he was driven in life and no goal is never set too high for him to achieve. He was just starting his life, so many dreams and aspirations not yet achieved. He was a blessing and brought a light of joy to everyone who encountered him."
CBS news reported that the U.S. State Department was in touch with Greek authorities and assisting the family to bring Henderson’s body back.
