The Monday morning death of a female stunt driver during “Deadpool 2” filming has halted production of the film in Vancouver.
Vancouver police confirmed the death in a statement. The area was closed by authorities and WorkSafeBC sent five officers to the scene to inspect the site for safety and investigate the cause of the incident.
Eyewitnesses told Global News the stunt driver performed the stunt perfectly four times before losing control of the bike on the fifth try and crashing through the glass of a Shaw Tower ground floor studio around 8:20 a.m.
The witnesses did not think the stunt person hit her brakes before hitting the window, but that she may have hit a post before going airborne, Global News reported.
The woman was put into an advanced life support ambulance, which remained on the scene for 45 minutes, then drove to the hospital with no lights and sirens, Global News reported. The stunt person’s name has not been released.
There was no word about when filming would resume. Canadian agent Jason Cameron told Global News that typically, an accident like this would halt production for a fairly long time while an investigation is done.
Production on “Deadpool 2” began in June. The sequel movie stars Ryan Reynolds and is directed by David Leitch.
Fox released a statement about the incident, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Twitter responded to the incident with surprise and sadness.
