Pat Boone’s daughter shot to fame in the late 1970s when her single "You Light Up My Life" topped the charts, and stayed there for 10 straight weeks.
Since then Debby Boone has stayed in the limelight, performing in musical theaters and even writing several children's books, according to her biography. Now she’s opening up about her famous dad, Pat Boone.
Much of her success has to do with raw talent, but the singer has also learned a lot from her father, who taught her how to command the stage, Fox News reported.
The 62-year-old recently talked about about her father and her personal life in an interview with Closer Weekly.
She said his lessons were "very similar to what I learned posthumously from my grandfather, which is the ability to be authentically themselves in front of an audience, which makes everybody comfortable. They just made people feel like they were guests in their home."
Pat has been known as the golden boy of America. His squeaky-clean image embodied the 1950s, when his album sales soared. He remains widely admired today.
Debby grew up in a family with solid values and strong faith. She shared how people perceive her saying, “I think people are constantly surprised that I am fun, that I’m not stuck up, that I have a good sense of humor and that I’m very inclusive."
Debby previously admitted going through a "rebellious" phase in her late teens.
She stuck up psychedelic posters in her room just to get a rise from her father. She even joined the Elvis Presley Fan Club because she thought it would upset him "because back then you were either a Pat Boone fan or an Elvis fan," according to the New York Daily News.
Only later did she realize how fortunate she was.
"My "rebellion," if you can call it that, didn't last long, and by the time I was 18 I began to realize that I was blessed with great parents who were my support system, not my enemies."
Being the daughter of Pat also helped launch her career, which has taken Debby on an adventure through Hollywood. Speaking to Closer Weekly, she recalled opening for Frank Sinatra and bonding with her husband's mother, Rosemary Clooney, who happened to be George Clooney's aunt.
While it is rare that they encounter the Hollywood actor at family gatherings, Debby said she has spent time with the 58-year-old and his family.
"Not long ago, when his twins were just toddlers and his parents were in town, he invited us to a family dinner at his home," Debby recalled. "To spend a little time with [his wife] Amal [Clooney] — I found her to be so lovely and down-to-earth. I saw up close how crazy they care about each other and their kids. It was a heartwarming event."
