A dog was lost after escaping from the cargo of a Delta aircraft at Los Angeles International Airport, leaving his owner, Frank Romano, grappling for answers.
Romano said the airline has offered him a $200 credit toward another flight, but that is little consolation for the distraught pet owner, who just wants his dog back.
“I keep praying and wishing for him to come back,”
Romano told ABC News. “He’s my best friend. He would cheer me up when I was down. He would put his head on my leg or stomach and look at me with his puppy dog eyes.”
Romano booked his pet, Ty, on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to Tampa. The airline continues to
search for the microchipped dog, including at area shelters, CNN reported.
"Delta continues to investigate what happened, but early indications show procedures were followed, and the dog may have compromised the kennel on its own," Morgan Durrant, a Delta spokesman, said in a statement, adding that the airline is fully supporting the search for the dog. “Delta understands that pets are an important member of the family and regrets this occurred while this pet was entrusted to our care.”
Romano adopted the 6-year-old dog last year from a shelter during a time when he was homeless, CNN reported.
"He was like a big anxiety pill. He would help me through the rough times," Romano told CNN. "I just want him home safe. I just want him back."
