Demi Lovato plans to go to rehab straight from the hospital where she has been treated for a drug overdose since Tuesday.
A source told E! News that Lovato had been partying for a few months and was happy to have survived the overdose. “She slipped up and thought she could handle it. This is obviously a huge wake-up call,” the unnamed source said.
“Demi doesn’t want to die and she’s very grateful to be alive,” the source told E! News. She will be leaving the hospital and heading straight to rehab. Her family has been by her side supporting her and is getting her the help she needs.”
Another report said that the singer had not used heroin prior to the overdose, as reported in the media, but that meth may have been used along with drinking alcohol. The Blast reported that a nurse claimed Lovato had used the drug.
An eyewitness told E! News that Lovato was drinking at the Saddle Ranch in L.A. until closing time, and other sources said that the party to celebrate her choreographer’s birthday continued at Lovato’s house after that.
Another source said Lovato had been partying for at least 12 hours before the overdose, E! News said.
Lovato is being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and a source told CNN that she will be released “soon.” Lovato has not been in rehab since 2010, but released a song last month called “Sober” that talked about relapsing back into drug and alcohol use.
Her representative said Lovato was awake and wanted to thank everyone for “the love, prayers and support,” CNN reported.
