Derek Jeter Ball Back: Little Girl Throws Away No. 2's Foul

By    |   Monday, 22 September 2014 10:13 AM EDT

A couple was delighted to catch a foul ball off the bat of Derek Jeter during his final month in the MLB, and stunned when their little girl threw it back onto the field.

The incident occurred Friday night during the Yankees-Blue Jays game after Jeter grounded a foul ball up the left side of the field. One of the ball boys picked it up and tossed it into the crowd, where a happy family caught it and began taking pictures with their newfound souvenir.

After getting a few snaps in, the father handed it to his daughter, who immediately chucked it back onto the field — eliciting a simultaneous jaw drop from both parents.

Commentators were impressed with the little girl's arm, as she had to pitch the ball over several rows to get it back onto the field. One joked that she just threw away enough money for her own college tuition.

Luckily, the bat boys picked up on what had happened, and retrieved the ball for the family.

All of New York and baseball fans everywhere have been celebrating in honor of Jeter's announced retirement, and a new ad from Gatorade released Thursday shows the All-Star taking a walk through town, receiving hat tips and high fives from fans.
