A satanic statue featuring children was unveiled at a Detroit temple on Saturday night after a group failed to get it installed near a 10 Commandments monument in Oklahoma.

Reuters reported that hundreds of partygoers flocked to The Satanic Temple, an industrial building near the Detroit River, just before midnight to see the unveiling of the one-ton bronze statue.

The statue depicts Baphomet, the winged, goat-headed wraith, flanked by two adoring children, all situated beneath a prominent pentagram.

In 2012, members of The Satanic Temple applied to place the statue near the 10 Commandments monument on the Oklahoma State Capitol grounds, however their application was denied.

This year, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the 10 Commandments statue — and any religiously affiliated statue — is in violation of the state Constitution's ban on using taxpayer money for religious purposes. After the ruling, which would have the 10 Commandments monument removed, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin vowed to keep it in place while an appeal was filed. Other legislators said they'd be willing to amend the Constitution to keep the monument on the capitol grounds.

Time magazine reported that the unveiling of the satanic statue was coupled with a ticketed party, which was described as "a cross between an underground rave and a meticulously planned Halloween party."

Jex Blackmore, who organized the unveiling of the statue and has spoken at Harvard University, has said in the past that the Satanic Temple — which has chapters in New York, Florida, Finland, Italy, and Minneapolis — does not stand for or condone symbolic evil and acts thereof, but rather seeks to highlight literary aspects associated with Satan, such as rationality, skepticism, and speaking truth to power.
