Newsmax Tech Tips: 6 Devices That Could Save Your Life

By    |   Thursday, 12 March 2015 08:07 AM EDT

Health-related technology, especially for the elderly, has come a long way in recent years. Here are six of the most innovative technologies and devices that could save your life.

1. BodyGuardian Remote Monitoring System: This lightweight, discreet, wearable sensor monitors your heart health. BodyGuardian tracks your ECG, heart rate, respiration rate, activity level, and body position at all times to give you and your loved ones peace of mind. Your doctor can access your data at anytime through BodyGuardian’s secure web platform and will be alerted to potential issues. The wireless device allows the wearer to bypass frequent checkups at the doctor’s office.

2. Amulyte: This pendant has a button you can press if you need help, immediately notifying family members and caregivers via text message and email. It has a speaker and microphone embedded in the device, so you can call them as well. It tracks your location and will let them know exactly where you are if you need help. Amulyte can detect heart attacks, strokes, and falls and works from anywhere.

3. MedMinder Maya: These pill dispensers remind you when to take your medications by sending a series of visual and/or auditory alerts. If the user doesn’t take their medications, caregivers will be notified via phone, email, and/or text message. Compartments are locked until it is the right time to take the medication, preventing the user from accidentally taking multiple doses.

4. ViSi Mobile System: Wear this device around your wrist and it monitors all of your vital signs, including your ECG, heart rate, SpO2, blood pressure, respiration rate, and skin temperature with the same monitoring accuracy and resolution of an ICU. You and your caregivers can track your vitals, and this data can be shared with clinicians as well.

5. American Well’s Remote Checkups: If you can’t get an appointment at the doctor’s office, American Well’s easy-to-use video platform will connect you with a doctor at any time of the day. Doctors will review your medical history, answer questions, and diagnose you through the video call on your phone or tablet and then send prescriptions straight to the pharmacy.

6. BeClose Home Sensors: BeClose makes sensors that can be installed throughout the home to monitor activity 24/7. The bed sensor tracks how long you’re in the bed for. The water sensor can detect leaks and floods. The motion sensor detects activity throughout the house. BeClose Buttons, which allow you to press a button to notify your loved ones in the event of an emergency, can be installed in every room of the house.
