Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi showed her affection for Minnesota Lynx guard Seimone Augustus with a brief kiss Thursday night during a WNBA playoff game.

Taurasi and Augustus, longtime friends and teammates on the U.S. Olympic team, got into a fourth-quarter shoving match during Minnesota's 85-62 win in Game 1 of the best-of-three Western Conference Finals. When Augustus got in her face, the former Connecticut star kissed her on the right cheek. Both players received a foul.

"We were just trying to make sweet love," Taurasi told reporters after the game.

Augustus replied with, "The tango dance that we had, I always say she just wanted some of my deliciousness."

Taurasi, 31, is one of the league's best. She won three consecutive NCAA titles while playing at the University of Connecticut and is a five-time scoring champ in the WNBA. She has earned gold medals from the last three Olympics games.

She also has led the WNBA in technical fouls in five of the past six years, including this season.

Players exchanging pleasantries isn't a new phenomenon. While playing for Single-A Hagerstown in 2011, Washington Nationals' Bryce Harper invoked the ire of Greensboro pitcher Zachary Neal. When Harper reached home plate, he blew a kiss in Neal's direction.

Some commenters on the website Deadspin enjoyed the incident.

"The WNBA is on to something here," one user wrote. "More kissing will definitely lead to higher ratings from the coveted male 18-39 age group. Also, anyone committing a foul has to remove an article of clothing. The league could eclipse the NFL in popularity."
