DL Hughley Tears Up Talking About His Son, Who Has Asperger's Syndrome

By    |   Wednesday, 29 April 2015 09:31 AM EDT

D.L. Hughley, one of the Original Kings of Comedy and star of "The Hughleys," broke down in tears in a recent interview while talking about the triumph he's experienced though his son, who has Asperger's syndrome.

Hughley told his story on a recent episode of "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

He explained that his son Kyle, who is now 26, was diagnosed at a young age with Asperger's syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder.

Because of his condition, Kyle does best when there's order and predictability in his schedule.

"He graduated from college but everything has to be the same. He goes to work at the same time. He eats the same thing," Hughley explained.

Recently, Kyle volunteered to take his father's car to the gas station for a fill up.

"I'm a nervous wreck," Hughley said, explaining how he felt at the time.

"So he comes back in and he gives me the receipt and the keys," he said, choking up and shedding a few proud tears. "And I could not stop crying, because he did something he was afraid to do . . . I just didn't believe he could do it. He did it."

"And I held him and I said, 'You're gonna be all right.' And I think sometimes I don't know for sure, but he's gonna be fine. He'll be fine," he added.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hughley opened up about his past infidelities, expressing regret, and thanking his wife for standing by him.
