The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will hit the market with 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque, Dodge announced during the car's reveal Tuesday.
The Demon will be the fastest zero to 60 production car in the world, the Detroit Free Press reported. The price of the car is not yet available, but is expected to be well under $100,000.
The car will not come with standard passenger or rear seats, though customers can buy them as options for $1 each, the Free Press reported.
Dodge doesn’t expect to make much money on the new Demon, but knows it will bring people into showrooms where they will likely buy a different Dodge car, such as the Hellcat, instead.
Production of the single-model-year, limited edition Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be about 3,000 cars in the U.S. and 300 for Canada, the Free Press reported. The Demon will be available to dealers in the fall.
The National Hot Rod Association has banned the car from drag racing for being too fast and for lacking (in standard form) safety equipment and a competition license. The car can do a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, but if drivers keep it to 9.99 seconds at 135 mph, they will meet the requirements as-is, according to Jalopnik.
