Dog Abandoned With Suitcase of His Stuff at Scottish Train Station

By    |   Tuesday, 06 January 2015 06:54 PM EST

A dog was found abandoned at a train station in Scotland with a suitcase containing his belongings.

Kai, the Shar-Pei crossbreed, is being looked after by animal welfare officials, who say the dog’s owners could face a lifetime ban from pet ownership, The Daily mail reported.

Kai was found Jan. 2 tied to the railing outside the train station in Ayr with a suitcase that held a toy, bowl, dog food and a pillow.

A microchip directed officials to the dog’s previous owners, who said they sold him on the Internet in 2013.

“This case highlights the potential consequences of selling an animal online, as it often leads to the impulse buying of pets that people know very little about,” Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals inspector Stewart Taylor said in a news release. “Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible.”

Kai is 2 or 3 years old and is being cared for by the Scottish SPCA until a new home can be found. The organization has been inundated with calls offering the pooch a home, The Daily Mail said.

Twitter users showed support for the dog.
