The Seminole Humane Society in Oklahoma wrote on Facebook that a dog named Cathleen walked 40 miles to try to find its previous owners after they moved away and couldn’t keep her.
After moving to a home Seminole, Oklahoma that didn’t allow her original family to keep her, Cathleen was placed with another family temporarily in the nearby town of Prague while the animal shelter worked on finding her a new home, WSMV reported.
Not once but twice, Cathleen walked about 20 miles from Prague to Seminole to find her original family, the Humane Society said. “Her heart wants to be with them,” the shelter posted, saying that the family loved her “very much” but couldn’t keep her.
The shelter praised the dog’s qualities, describing her as “sweet” and “docile,” and said she might seem “shy at first” but will become friendly and “open up” over time.
The 6-year-old Great Pyrenees is now in the process of being adopted but is a great example of the love and loyalty so many appreciate about dogs.
Many Facebook commenters lamented why a family who loved her would give her up, and some offered to adopt her. The shelter pointed out that Cathleen is just one of many dogs that need homes and families to love them.
When the story made it to Twitter, it made many users there sad that the family gave her up.
