Donald Glover's "Deadpool" animated series may be dead, but the merc with a mouth isn't the only one being cheeky about it.
Glover put speculation to rest Wednesday when he announced he wasn’t “too busy to work on Deadpool,” an animated series for FX about the Marvel superhero of the same name.
The project, announced in May, was intended to be a 10-episode series to run on the FXX channel in collaboration with Glover’s brother Steven. However, FXX announced Saturday the project was being canceled due to “creative differences.”
From that announcement, Variety made a leap of logic and surmised the series "may have been a casualty of Donald Glover’s packed schedule." He's currently working on the hit FX series "Atlanta," voicing Simba in "The Lion King" live-action remake, and appears in the upcoming "Star Wars" movie "Solo."
Glover said it wasn't his schedule, though. He tweeted: "For the record: I wasn’t too busy to work on 'Deadpool.'" He followed that up by posting 15 pages of a "Deadpool" script.
The script takes Deadpool to Africa in an effort save the last living male Northern white rhino, and alludes to racism in the entertainment industry. The 34-year-old Emmy winner also wrote about cutting ties with the production company in the script.
“It just feels like everyone wants something different, but no one want to do anything different to get it,” he wrote as Deadpool. “Doesn’t Marvel have enough feel-good minority shows everyone supports but doesn’t watch? I mean, I think our show woulda been funny. I just wanted a place to be honest.”
The script also refers to such current events as the Facebook privacy scandal and the rise in popularity of bitcoin. It also made reference to the Sacramento police shooting of Stephen Clark.
Glover’s fans applauded the the fake script, but were disappointed to see the project come to a close.
