When Donald Trump heard about the New York bus driver who stopped a woman from jumping off a bridge last month, the real estate mogul decided to send the man $10,000 for his good deed.

Darnell Barton, 37, was driving the Buffalo Metro bus Oct. 18 when he noticed a woman had climbed the guardrail on the overpass above the Scajaquada Expressway. He stopped the bus, which was filled with high school students, approached the woman, and asked her if she needed help.

"That's when I went and put my arms around her," Barton later told The Associated Press. "I felt like if she looked down at that traffic one more time it might be it."

The woman allowed Barton to lift her back over the guardrail and a corrections officer who was driving behind the bus waited with her until authorities arrived.

"People were passing by and just passing by. She's hanging over the side of a bridge and they're acting like there's nothing even happening," Trump told WGRZ.com Friday, the day he sent Barton the money. "And, he stopped his bus and went out and went into action. And, you know, the softness of his voice and the beauty of his action actually convinced the young lady to step away from danger, so I thought he did a fantastic job."

Trump said he wanted to give something back to Barton.

"I love doing it when I see something wonderful like that," he said. "That was just wonderful what he did. And with such compassion and such heart, and such a nice guy and I just loved watching it. It was just beautiful the way he did it and this is very special and he's a special guy and he has to be rewarded for that."
