Donald Trump: Gun Totin' Prez Candidate Feels Safer Armed

Donald Trump said he "sometimes" carries a gun, and feels more secure when he does.

"I like to have myself protected," Trump told CBS’s "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

Trump told host John Dickerson he's "a big Second Amendment person" and obtained a concealed-carry permit years ago to protect himself.

Asked if he thought everyone should obtain such a permit, Trump answered, "That's up to them. But I will tell you, I feel much better being armed."

In regard to this month's shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, he said that a good guy with a gun could have made for a better outcome.

"Had somebody in that room had a gun, the result would’ve been better," he said. "I think that if you had the teacher, assuming they knew how to use the weapon, which hopefully they would, you would’ve been a lot better when this maniac walked into class, starting to shoot people."

Yahoo News reported
that Trump has been touting his love for the Second Amendment on the campaign trail.

On Oct. 3, for example, the real estate billionaire told a crowd in Tennessee, "I have a license to carry in New York — can you believe that? Nobody knows that. Somebody attacks me, they’re going to be shocked."

Trump's rival candidate Ben Carson also made headlines last week in regard to firearms, telling USA Today, "If I had a little kid in kindergarten somewhere I would feel much more comfortable if I knew on that campus there was a police officer or somebody who was trained with a weapon. If the teacher was trained in the use of that weapon and had access to it, I would be much more comfortable if they had one than if they didn't."

Later on Tuesday, he told Fox News that he would not have cooperated with the Umpqua Community College shooter, and fought back.
