Donnie Wahlberg is paying it forward. The "Blue Bloods" actor was dining at a Marshland restaurant in Plymouth, Massachusetts, when he decided to drop a $2,020 tip on a $35.27 bill. His server Denise Andrews' "jaw dropped."
"She always says he's a very good tipper anyway but her jaw dropped, to say the least, when she saw that amount of tip," the restaurant's manager, Marty Finch, told People on Thursday. He explained that Wahlberg often asked for Andrews to be his server as she knew how he liked his order of steak, asparagus, and poached eggs. He left the generous tip as part of the #2020tipchallenge, which encourages customers to leave a $20.20 tip — or in this case, a $2,020 tip — but downplayed the entire gesture.
"When he left he just said, 'Denise you're all set. The payment is on the table,'" Finch continued.
Rather than keep it all to herself, Andrews shared the tip with her co-workers.
"Denise was very generous. She tipped out her fellow waitstaff and the guys in the kitchen, and she actually donated, too," Finch explained. "She's working on getting two families turkey meals during the holidays, so she's generous herself. Donnie said to pass it on, to keep this positive stuff going, so she's trying to do that as well."
Finch said the restaurant has been struggling over the last few months due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were forced to shut down for several weeks and had just recently reopened. Wahlberg's tip was a welcome gift following the stress his workers endured.
"It was just very uplifting for everyone," he said.
