Dr. Mehmet Oz has weighed in on the weight of Giuliana Rancic, saying the “Fashion Police” host is too skinny.
"She's on Tamoxifen because of the cancer and she will be on that for a while,"
Oz told Us Weekly. "But it does cause you to lose some weight, plus she has a fast metabolism, plus she has scoliosis. All those things that make her look even thinner than she really is, but there's no question that she's too skinny."
Rancic, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, appeared on "The Dr. Oz Show" on Wednesday to promote her new book “Going Off Script.” She discussed photos taken during the Golden Globes in January that Oz described as showing her looking “really thin, like maybe even dangerously thin.”
The 40-year-old author assured Oz that she has never had an eating disorder and attributed her thin appearance to scoliosis, cancer medication, and a high metabolism.
“Trust me, I don’t want to lose weight. I don’t think it looks attractive,” Rancic told Oz.
They also discussed weight training.
"I'm just trying to get some more definition, because I want a little bit of curve, I want to be sexy. And right now, it's killing me to look in the mirror,” Rancic told Dr. Oz. “I'm just not the girl I used to be."
Oz reiterated his advice to Us Weekly.
"The advice is not to eat burgers, because then you'll just get fat," he told the magazine. "But the real advice — I think she's heard, and we talked about it on the show — is that she actually needs to put on some muscle mass."
Rancic told People magazine that the criticism of her appearance is hurtful.
"I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do,” she said. "I eat more than any of my friends. I eat a very robust, healthy, balanced diet and dessert almost every night. I'm not hiding from anything."
