'Dracula Castle' For Sale in Romania for the Right Price

Dracula’s Transylvania castle is on the market, but only to people who would continue to run it as a tourist attraction and maintain the immense property that has a few plumbing issues.

“If someone comes in with a reasonable offer, we will look at who they are, what they are proposing, and will seriously entertain the idea,” Mark Meyer, of Herzfeld and Rubin, told The Telegraph about selling Dracula's castle.

The historic Romanian castle wasn’t, of course, really Dracula’s home; nonetheless it comes with the kind of history one would expect from a castle built centuries ago.

While Bram Stoker didn't actually visit the castle, it's believed he based the castle in his "Dracula" novel on this one.

Records indicate there was a fortress on that particular spot in 1211, The Telegraph noted.

When Communists flooded the area in 1948, the Royal Family in residence was given the boot, and wasn’t able to return for 58 years.

Family members Dominic, Marai Magadalena, and Elizabeth Habsburg have been running Bran Castle ever since, bringing in 560,000 people every year to visit the castle, The Telegraph said.

It’s apparently a challenging tourist destination, with not enough bathrooms. There is, however, room on the land for a hotel.

Although it’s unclear what the sale price is, The Telegraph said rumors indicate Archduke Dominic offered it to the country’s government for $80 million.

The sheer romantic mystery that veils Dracula’s castle stirred online interest when many heard it was for sale.

Of course, many people made sure to point out that the (fictional) character of Dracula never lived there.
