The trailer for "Dracula Untold" went online this week, amping up expectations for a movie that explores the origins of the famous vampire and closely follows the work of author Bram Stoker.
The first trailer for the movie, due out in October, harks back to why Prince Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes, played by Luke Evans, became a vampire and offers the somewhat heartwarming concept that he was trying to protect his family as Turkish invaders approached.

“The film looks to be more of an action-based take on the legend than a straight-up horror, and marks director Gary Shore’s feature film debut,”
The Telegraph remarked after seeing the trailer.
As vampire fans logged online to see the trailer and glimpse the storytelling of director Gary Shore and writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharples are bringing to “Dracula Untold,” some gave it a tentative stamp of approval.
“About time they did a great vampire movie,” one person wrote on YouTube. “Ever since Anne Rice's 'Interview With a Vampire' was adapted to film the vampire genre has gone downhill but with this film it might bring back a respectable reputation.”
A few commented that it looked a lot like the series of Castlevania games.
“Kind of like Castlevania,” one person wrote, to which another responded, “I was thinking the same, I wonder if they will kill him like in Castlevania and he just keeps reviving.”
The PG-13 film inspired a few comments about no one getting impaled in the trailer, though that’s bound to happen in the movie.
Others were more impressed than they expected to be.
“Wow, I didn't expect this to looking that ... good.
Luke Evans nailed this role!” one commenter wrote on ComingSoon.net.
