Saints quarterback Drew Brees took to Twitter to explain that a picture of a $74 meal receipt with a small $3 tip on it was a take-out order, so everyone getting all hot and bothered by his lack of generosity can just take a deep breath.
Bleacher Report pointed out that most people don’t tip at all on take-out orders and also took a subtle “I told you so” stance, indicating the sports site’s first report that said it probably was a to-go order.

The receipt initially appeared on The Dirty.com showing a picture of the receipt from the Del Mar, Calif., Rendezvous restaurant. The receipt clearly shows the waitress’ name, Carissa, and The Dirty.com made a point of saying that she wasn’t the one who submitted the pic.
“I want to make it very clear to management at Del Mar Rendezvous that Carissa DID NOT submit this receipt of cheapo Drew Brees. Contacts at the restaurant have told me you will be meeting with her tonight to discuss termination. Drew Brees is the 3 dollar tipper, don’t fire her because of his actions.- nik (Nik Richie)”
Comments on The Dirty.com defended Brees, who apparently has a strong reputation for doing good. One anonymous commenter wrote: “If this was really Brees, then Carissa must have been pretty [d—] terrible ... this is a man who has not only changed the city of New Orleans, but gives away millions to multiple charities across the globe. If he tipped this poorly, I believe there was a good reason!”
The Dirty.com’s Richie continued to support his initial point of view on Twitter:
The restaurant manager also felt it necessary to make a statement, apologizing to Brees and anyone else offended by this tip controversy.
