"Duck Dynasty" star Willie Robertson revealed that he has fallen in love with musical theater while working on his family's new stage show, which premieres April 15 in Las Vegas.
"I’m learning a lot more the more I go along,"
Robertson told The Chicago Tribune in an interview published Sunday. "I’ve always been interested in them. I love going to see musicals."
In speaking about his own show, "Duck Commander Musical: How Faith, Family and Ducks Built a Dynasty," he said he was excited to give fans what he feels will be the closest look at the family yet.
"I think this story comes along great because it brings you up to the now. I don’t think there are too many musicals that bring you this close to reality — as of last year, probably."
"To see your own life portrayed out there is really surreal," he added.
The musical is based on the bestselling book "The Duck Commander Family" by Willie and Korie Robertson, which traces their marriage of 23 years through the real-life narrative of their business success.
Tickets are already on sale for the show, which will be held at the Crown Theater inside Rio All-Suite Hotel 7 Casino, and blends country, rock, gospel, and pop into one grand performance.
Asked if he was nervous about the new format, Robertson gave an even-keeled answer that took into account the family's original rise to fame through their reality show, which has seen seven seasons of unbridled success.
"Our TV show has been on a long time even though a lot of people didn’t think it would work," said Robertson.
"Hopefully (critics) watch it for what it is. The actors are certainly qualified. A lot of them are from Broadway. They know what they’re doing. The story is great — it’s about redemption. Hopefully they like it, and if they don’t I think a lot of our fanbase will still want to go check it out."
