Students at North Carolina’s Durham Academy got an entertaining snow day school cancellation notice after their headmaster and an assistant rapped the news to “Ice Ice Baby.”

Michael Ulku-Steiner, the headmaster, donned ski goggles and Lee Hark, an assistant, shrugged on a Sochi Olympics sweater as the music from Vanilla Ice’s “Ice, Ice Baby” started.

Then they began their rap, that went something like this: “Ice is back and the roads will glisten, polar vortex has a hold of us tightly, wind like a harpoon daily and nightly.”

The creative and entertaining school officials then advised their student population to “dance to the grocery store, buy batteries before conditions devolve. Deadly slippery roads might be so stay in your house and drink hot tea.”

According to the school’s website, Ulku-Steiner just started there in July last year, moving from a position as head of school at The American School in Switzerland, although he began his career at the Durham Academy. http://www.da.org/

The website described him as, “He is that rare leader who combines vision, charisma, intellect, integrity, warmth and a keen sense of curiosity.”

They need to add talented to that list. And, according to some of the comments popping up as the video is going viral, good-looking.

“My school principals never looked that hot...,” Amanda Pisano wrote on Buzzfeed. To which someone replied, “Right???” and another said, “I had the same thought while watching this.”

Durham Academy’s video followed one done by a principal and drama teacher at Stephens Elementary School in Burlington, Ky., who sang their school closing announcement to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” That video went viral and has almost 2 million hits.

If winter storms continue to hit the United States, there will be ample opportunity for other creative school officials to make their own videos. These two schools have set the bar pretty high.
